The job search continues...
The interview thing back on 10 May turned out not really to be an interview at all, but a test and filling out an application. That's why Julian was in there for so long. And he hasn't heard anything from that company since then. So I'm assuming that would be a no, we don't want to hire you.
He did have another interview with a different potential employer on 19 May (Star Wars day!) and this one seems to have gone better. He was offered the position on the spot, to repair computers and such -- right up his alley, so to speak, and was told to take a drug test within the next 48 hrs. So I spent my day at work on Friday trying to figure out exactly where he was supposed to go for the test. According to him, he was given some papers and told that the place was in the Doctors Building. Okay, so I know where the building is -- Enzo's pediatrician is in that building, along with my dermatologist, and several floors of other doctors and clinics. I got him to give me all the info off of the form and I finally tracked down the suite number we were looking for. We went Friday afternoon when I got off at work and he was there until they closed at 5. But the sample was provided within the 48 hour window. So I'm thinking he'll hear back about the job either Monday or Tuesday. Nothing. Wednesday comes...still nothing. So I tell him to call. He does, and talks to the manager who tells him that they don't have the results yet and that they should call him either on Thursday or Friday. Thursday comes and goes. No call. Friday comes, and when he hadn't heard anything by almost 5 in the afternoon, he calls again. Gets an assistant manager who seems to be clueless. The store manager is busy. The person gets Julian's name and number, tells him they'll check on it and call him back. No calls came in on Friday after that. And now it's a holiday weekend, so it's going to be Tuesday before he hears anything, I'm sure. So I don't know if this place is just really disorganised, if they changed their minds about hiring him and don't have the balls to tell him, or what. It's frustrating to be in our tight financial situation and to know that he's been offered a job that pays decently and would help us out so much, but they can't make the offer final and give him his work schedule until the drug test results are back. I'm not worried about him passing. I guess that's what is most annoying. I know that the job is his, but we've been waiting more than a week now.
Where to go from here? How much longer do we wait? Is it time to give up and continue the search? Arrgh.
