I wish I had never learned French

In high school I had the choice to study either French or Spanish. My high school wasn't huge, so the language faculty was limited. I chose French. Had I known that 5 years out of high school I would marry a native Spanish speaker, I would have studied Spanish. Oh well. Hindsight is 20/20, I guess.

I bring this up now because although knowing French has helped in some ways, some words are similar, sentence structure is similar, French is ruining my Spanish.

Case in point: last night I was talking to Julian and trying to say Entre Rios. Entre came out sounding like entrée, like I was ordering a meal or something.
Another fine example: before Julian arrived here, from time to time he would call me or I would call him. One day I called and he didn't answer, but his mother did. She doesn't speak much English. I spoke even less Spanish then than I do now. I freaked out and said,"Bonjour."

I've even noticed as I try to speak Spanish, and I'm thinking ahead in my mind of what should come next, that some times my brain tries to betray me and feed me the next word or line in French. I've gotten better at catching that before I look like an idiot, a native English speaker who's speaking Spanish but somehow when the word I'm looking for in Spanish doesn't come, instead of reverting to English it comes out French. Arrrgh!

I guess it could be worse. It could be Swedish.

Anyone else who speaks multiple languages: do you face this too or am I just weird like that?
